The million dollar question and also the question we can never answer with 100% certainty.
You may or may not know if you’re in labour or not. Sucks, eh?
Unfortunately, we can’t predict how your labour will start or how it will progress and we can’t tell you at exactly what point you’ll be truly “in labour”.
You’ll probably hear a lot of different opinions about this. Some might tell you it’s based on how close your contractions are, some might say it’s when you hit a certain level of pain.
As confusing as it might be- we do have some solid answers.
Here’s what we can tell you for sure right now:
- if you are able to fall asleep and wake up in the morning without a baby in your bed, you weren’t really in labour.
- if you can sit and prepare a 200 song playlist to play at the hospital- you’re not really in labour
- if you can talk through your contractions and nobody can tell you’re having them, you’re probably not in labour
Rest assured, there are certain things to look out for and certain signs that almost always mean that labour has truly kicked in. We’ll make sure you’re as prepared and ready for all of these things in advance- mucous plugs, Braxton Hicks, bloody show and all!
