1) The first time you try to poop after birth
Nothing seems to phase us when we compare it to the idea of pushing a baby out of our vagina…That is until you’ve pushed the baby out of your vagina, and then you feel the need to poop for the first time. I will never forget this moment: sitting on the toilet, nervously thinking, NO WAY! The last thing I could possibly imagine doing after having pushed my baby out into this world was to push AGAIN!
Fear not, I promise you will not push out your insides! Drink lots of water, eat foods that are high in fiber and try to relax as much as possible.
2) The first time you go on a family outing after birth
So, remember the days when you grabbed your purse, keys and phone, and flew out the door to meet a friend at the park? Sayonara! Well, those days are not totally gone but there will be several months, more like years really, before you have that free feeling again. After a new baby a family outing to the park can seem like you are packing for a one month summer holiday! There are a ton of NEW items to add to your checklist, and there is no doubt that it takes some getting used to! Eventually you’ll learn to leave the house with what you really need, but for now, get yourself a nice, BIG diaper bag!
3) The first time you have sex again after birth
Ok, this is totally something that women need to talk about! Did anyone else out there feel like they were losing their virginity, again!? In a lot of ways, it was like this for me. I was totally freaking out about what it was going to feel like, I was scared it was going to hurt, I had anxious butterflies fluttering in my belly, and I was nervous about getting pregnant (again). After birthing a baby it is completely normal to think to yourself- no way is anything going up there!
4) The first time you have a glass (or 2) of wine after birth
I remember when my husband I would have a few glasses of wine over dinner and we would get all flirty and fun. I never thought the day would come when I would have half a glass of wine and feel like I’d had half a bottle, and wake up with a headache the next day!
5) The first time you wear your bathing suit after birth
Yes, this is going to be a moment for you. I mean, hasn’t it always been? There is a lot of pressure out there about our bodies so naturally, after our bellies have stretched and grown a baby, we may look and feel different than we did before we were pregnant. Honestly (and yes I stole this line from a meme I saw awhile back) YOU ARE A GODDAMNED TIGER AND YOU EARNED YOUR STRIPES! Love yourself and your body! Remember that to your baby, there is no one more beautiful than you in the entire world!
Did anything here surprise you? Is there a first that you’re worried about?
I am worried for my first time alone with baby. So when the support has dwindled in the first weeks, and hubby is back at work. I think I will have some friends on phone standby! 🙂
